So GM went ahead and implanted the 564bhp engine of the Corvette ZR1 into the regular CTS sedan. Like many German car manufacturers (such as Audi with its S- and RS-series and BMW’s M-series) before them, they seem to be getting into the business of understatement with these high-performance yet almost fully opaque (save the grille, bigger brakes, and sound) limousines.
It’s a welcome addition to the pack, too, since Audi especially has sort of lost its senses when it comes to pricing of their RS models. For example, the list price of a 2004 RS6 sedan was EUR 86.500, which wasn’t cheap to begin with. The 2008 RS6 went on sale for a list price of EUR 108.400, more than 25% price increase in just 4 years. In contrast, the 2011 CTS-V will be available starting at EUR 45.000 this summer.
The summer rims were overdue.
At this point still a concept car, Porsche unveiled the 918 Spyder plug-in hybrid in Geneva. It is powered by a 500PS V8 engine and 3 electric motors, totaling 716PS. Fuel consumption of the hybrid drive is expected to be 3l/100km or 70g CO2 emissions per km.
